WELCOME to 2nd Grade
Mass Days: Students will go to Mass on Wednesdays for the lower grade Mass and Thursdays for the all-school Mass. All Holy Days will be celebrated at Church. After the 2nd semester, 2nd graders will be responsible for class Masses, where they will do the First Reading, petitions, and gifts. You are always welcome to join us for Mass.
Homework: Students are expected to read Monday -Thursday for 15 minutes and record what they read on a reading log. On Tuesdays, students will have a story assigned from their reading books. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, students get to choose what they read. Please help them find “just right” books. Students may read by themselves, but also encourage them to read out loud. Sharing the reading with your child by taking turns to read pages or paragraphs is a great idea! I will take a weekly grade of their reading logs on the last day of the week. On Wednesdays evenings, students will have a math assignment to complete and return.
Spelling: Spelling words are listed on my newsletter and my weebly website. On the first day of the week, we will take a pre-test. If your child receives a 100%, he or she will not have to complete the spelling homework on Thursday evening or the spelling test on the last day of the week. If your child misses a word, then he or she will have a chance to improve his or her grade on the spelling test on the last day of the week.
Newsletters: Communication is one of the most important skills we – students, parents and teachers – can develop. I will post a newsletter on the last day of every week and I will also send home letters on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Please clean out your child’s folder nightly for letters, graded assignments and homework.
I’m looking forward to a fantastic year!!
